Q: You have a server farm with Citrix Presentation Server 3.0 and 4.0 servers and you run published applications from both servers. Does this consume one or two licenses?

A: This depends on the licenses installed and which server you log on to first.

Scenario 1:

The license server contains 100 Presentation Server 3.0 equivalent licenses with a lapsed Subscription Advantage and 100 Presentation Server 4.0 licenses. You log on to the Presentation Server 3.0 and check out a Presentation Server 3.0 license. Making another connection to the server running Presentation Server 4.0 would check out a second license.

Scenario 2:

The license server contains 100 Presentation Server 3.0 equivalent licenses with a lapsed Subscription Advantage and 100 Presentation Server 4.0 licenses. You log on to the server running Presentation Server 4.0 and check out a Presentation Server 4.0 license. Making another connection to the server running Presentation Server 3.0 would use the same license because newer licenses are backward compatible.

Typically, issues arise when Subscription Advantage has lapsed. As long as Subscription Advantage is current, you should be able to connect to any server and only consume one license.
